Ohms should read roughly 1.2 to 2.0 ohms
If car will start but won't stay running after releasing the key, this resistor may be blown. If so, you can jump across the resistor and run the car until you can get a new one. 12volt only.
The purpose is to reduce the voltage after the car is started. No need to reduce the voltage on a 6 volt car.
